Since 1929, Calvary Bible Church has been preaching the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and equipping believers to live life according to the unchanging truths of the Bible. Calvary is a non-denominational church with membership in the IFCA International fellowship of churches.

Mission Statement

Calvary Bible Church exists to multiply disciples who glorify God by GOING to all peoples, GATHERING in community, and GROWING in Christ.

The vision of Calvary Bible Church is to be a biblically faithful, disciple-making, intergenerational church comprised of people from many nations which glorifies God through local evangelism, global outreach, loving community, humble prayer, expository preaching, fervent worship and practical training.

Core Values

Local Evangelism

The Great Commission (Matthew 28:16-20) and the Great Commandments (Matthew 22:36-40) place a sacred responsibility upon us to reach our neighbors with the gospel and love of Christ. Our responsibility begins with our nearest neighbors (our own families), and extends to our personal neighbors (those who live or work near us), our congregational neighbors (those attending services or living near the church building), and the least-reached communities in our city (university students, immigrants, neglected neighborhoods, etc.). Evangelism is both an individual and corporate responsibility, and so training members and combining the diversity of their individual spiritual gifts is vital to effective outreach ministries.

Global Outreach

Because we cherish God’s glory (Psalm 46:10) and esteem His commands (Matthew 28:16-20; Luke 24:46-47; John 20:21; Acts 1:8), we rejoice to live all of life, corporately and individually, to proclaim the gospel and make disciples of all nations, tribes, and tongues. As a church, we are committed to raising up new generations of workers for God’s harvest fields, faithfully praying for our global partners and their ministries, caring for them personally with encouragement and love, and supporting them financially with a significant portion of our giving (Matthew 9:37-38).

Loving Community

The Lord intends and commands His church to be a loving community. This requires a personal and corporate commitment to be intentionally involved with other believers in accountable, loving, and encouraging relationships. By organizing ourselves into LifeGroups who know each others’ needs, pray for each other, and care for one another in practical ways, a loving community is built, and members are stirred up toward love and good deeds (Hebrews 10:24-25).

Humble Prayer

Prayer expresses a posture of humble dependence on God (Philippians 4:6). Jesus taught and demonstrated that prayer is vital to an intimate relationship with our Heavenly Father (John 17). Scripture teaches us to express Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving and Supplication (ACTS). We are commanded to pray for our leaders (1 Timothy 2:8), for one another (James 5:15-16), and for the lost souls all around us (Matthew 9:36-38). Therefore, we humbly pray, in our gathering and in our personal relationship with Jesus.

Expository Preaching

The Word of God is living and active (Hebrews 4:12), profitable (2 Timothy 3:16), perfect (Psalm 19:7a), restorative (Psalm 19:7b), and the means by which lost souls are saved by faith (Romans 10:17). Therefore, in joyful application of the Lord’s command to “teach them to obey all that I’ve commanded you” (Matthew 28:20), we emphasize the systematic study, preaching, and teaching of Scripture in every service, decision, and ministry of the church. This requires humble prayer for illumination and transformation by the Holy Spirit, diligent study using a historical-grammatical hermeneutic, careful attention to the context of each passage, a focus on authorial intent, and a congregational commitment to be discerning and eager “doers of the Word, not hearers only” (James 1:22-25).

Fervent Worship

Glorifying God is our ultimate purpose (Romans 11:36). Therefore, fervently worshipping the Lord in spirit and truth (John 4:23-24) is core to who we are and what we do. We pursue Christ-centered and doctrinally rooted worship in all of life. Our worship services include the four New Testament aspects of worship: preaching, prayer, fellowship, and praise. Our worship through music includes a theologically rich blend of psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. (Ephesians 5:19). We long to glorify God through Spirit-filled responses of all we are and all He is.

Practical Training

Jesus devoted most of His ministry to mentoring His disciples, and the apostles also emphasized the importance of practical training They emphasized hearing the Word, seeing how mature believers apply it in their daily lives and ministries, and then doing the same(Philippians 4:9). Using a “hearing-seeing-doing” model of mentoring, we emphasize intentional and practical training for every church member in all areas of the Christian life (Ephesians 4:12).
