Sermon Notes

Overview: Before Jesus ascended into heaven (Acts 1:6-11), He spoke of the disciples' power through the Holy Spirit that would enable them to be witnesses "even to the remotest part of the earth." How then are we to become prepared to be truthful, spirit-filled witnesses that faithfully proclaim the Gospel of Christ? As a church what Biblical principles are essential in our strategy to have more "boots on the ground"?

1. Don't                               or subtract from the                                 - Eph. 2:8-10

2. Be about the Great  - Mt. 28:18-20

3. Keep our spiritual up to  - Acts 24:16

4. Ask the  for a broken     - Ps. 126:5, 6

5. Do not the reality of . - Rev. 20:11-15

6. Humbly learn the of  - - Mark 1:14-20

7. Like joyfully introduce others to . - John 1:40-42

Application:

1. Explain "boots on the ground" as it relates to evangelism and the local church.

2. Review the seven principles for effective evangelism. Where are you strong and what areas need improvement?

3. What did you learn from the witnessing example of Andrew?

4. Why is a broken heart for lost souls essential for long-term evangelism?

5. Memorize and meditate on Acts 1:8.

"Let conscience point its finger at your heart. Ask yourself with Judgment Day honesty, 'Am I doing my part? Am I engaging in this task with all that I have and am? Do I pray as I should? Am I present in my appointed place when God's Word is preached? Do I deliver spoken or written invitations to Christ, or at least to hear Christ preached, earnestly, graciously, warmly, and persistently? Do I plead, preach, entreat, as I could and should?...Am I as clear as I could be? Do I take my opportunities to warn, exhort, invite, and encourage unbelievers in my circle to turn to Christ for salvation?...Do I plead, even with tears, that the members of my own family might look to Christ and be saved? Do I press home on my unsaved children the saving truth of God's Word? Do I labor in the church where God has put me in concert with my brothers and sisters in Christ and on my own initiative? Do I enter into these works with the right motives and desires for the honor and glory of God and out of a love for the souls of men and women?
