Is anyone among you suffering? Then he must pray. Is anyone cheerful? He is to sing praises. Is anyone among you sick? Then he must call for the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him. Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much. Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the earth for three years and six months. Then he prayed again, and the sky poured rain and the earth produced its fruit.

James 5:13-18

Elder Announcement

The Elders are recommending an amendment to the Constitution and Bylaws of the Church so that our baptism requirements for membership are consistent with our Statement of Faith; no change is being recommended for current Church Members. A special Membership Meeting will be held during the evening service on September 25 to explain the amendment and answer any questions. The Special Business Meeting to vote on the proposed changes will be on October 23, again in the evening service. All Members are encouraged to attend both meetings.

Ukraine Fund/Global Ministries Announcement

The Elders want to send a special thanks to the congregation and those outside of Calvary who have contributed to the special Ukraine project fund; donations have now reached $184,400 since March. Disbursements have been made directly or through Global Partners to meet the spiritual and physical needs of refugees and civilians who are suffering. The remaining balance of almost $28,000 will be distributed in future months as the war continues and the devastation remains. The Elders want you to know that donations to the fund will be accepted through the end of September 2022.

The Elders are encouraging donations to the Global Ministries Fund which has fallen behind Budget to the extent that giving to other special needs identified by the Global Ministries Council has been limited. The cash balance in the Global Ministries Fund at the end of August fell to $19,715, the lowest level in recent years and less than 50% of the monthly commitment to Global Partners.

Opportunities to Serve

Today is Fall Kick-Off for Children’s Ministry! In order to start this year off right, we need 4 Teachers and 10 adult Helpers to fill our Fall Schedule. If you are interested in serving please contact Hannah Haney. Children’s Ministry cannot function without volunteers. Classes will get closed on the weeks that they are understaffed, as we are no longer combining classes.

Nursery needs more workers! 21 for Sunday mornings, 3 for Sunday nights and 2 adults for every Wednesday night. If we don’t get the workers that we need for the nursery, we will have to start closing nurseries on the weeks that we don’t have enough help. We will no longer be combining nurseries due to staffing shortages.

Would you enjoy serving and helping in the kitchen? We are looking for people who are willing to help in the kitchen during special events, such as Pastor Appreciation, Fellowship Sunday, or other church events. Food Prep, Serving Line, Food Runners, Set-up/tear-down volunteers are all needed. Volunteer functions and time commitments vary with each event. Please click here to be added to the kitchen Special Events list.
