Conflicts and Compromise
James 4:1-6

What is the source of quarrels and conflicts among you? Is not the source your pleasures that wage war in your members? You lust and do not have; so you commit murder. You are envious and cannot obtain; so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures. You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you think that the Scripture speaks to no purpose: “He jealously desires the Spirit which He has made to dwell in us”? But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, “God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

James 4:1-6

NEWS

After salvation, Baptism is an important next step for the believer in Christ. By obeying Christ’s command, you are publicly declaring your identity with Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection. Our next Baptism service will be Sunday morning, August 21. Please contact Angela Haner or call the church office if you are interested. There are two required meetings prior to Baptism Sunday, so please sign up by Tuesday, August 9.

Women’s Bibles Studies is returning this fall on Tuesday mornings from 9:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m.! We’re looking forward to reconnecting with familiar faces and making new friends. There will also be an Infant-PK children’s study where the children participate in a lesson each week to dig deeper into God’s Word. We’d love for you to come along side us and help minister to these young hearts. Click here to contact Jenna Yetman if you have questions and are able to volunteer in the children’s ministry on these mornings.

The school sales have already begun!  When purchasing school supplies, please consider purchasing a few extra new pencils, colored pencils, erasers, pens, markers, one subject notebooks, coloring books or crayons to be packed in Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes during November so children around the world may attend school. Our shoeboxes last season were shipped to Rwanda and Burundi. Donations may be placed in the Samaritans Purse/Operation Christmas Child bin outside Room 122A (Reception Room). For information about this ministry visit samaritanspurse.org/OCC or contact Pam Wilkinson at (269) 375-9039.

Opportunities to Serve

Children’s Ministry has immediate needs! For next week Sunday, July 24, there is a need for 15 Helpers . Church Membership is not required to serve; these are helper roles; you won’t be teaching. Please call the Church Office or email Hannah Haney.

The Deacons are looking for a few individuals or families to assist with Communion preparations and clean up. Communion happens on the first Sunday of the month in the morning service with set up taking place on Saturday and the third Sunday of the month in the evening service with set up happening earlier that day. Email Ewing Tong if you are interested in serving.

Attention medical personnel! If you are a physician, NP, PA, nurse, EMT, or first responder who desires to serve the congregation, then we could use you on our medical team. The time commitment is minimal (just during the services), and we can work around any schedule or availability. Responsibilities include carrying a radio and responding to any medical emergencies during the service. For more details please contact Andy Yetman.

The Calvary Orchestra will be resuming regular participation in Sunday services in the fall as they also prepare for the Christmas concert. If you play a string, brass, woodwind, or percussion instrument and are interesting in joining the orchestra, please contact Ryan Whitaker. We look forward to hearing from you!

Congregational Announcement

As Pastor Jeff announced at the Annual Meeting, he will step back from his role as Senior Associate Pastor and continue to serve as an Associate Pastor. Lord willing, this transition will come in the next year. As a result, the Elders have initiated a search for a Senior Associate Pastor. Please feel free to contact the church office for more information. Submit resumes to the email here.

Ministry Focus

Can you make time to invest in developing a passion for godliness? Each Tuesday, 6:30-7:30 a.m., a Men’s Bible Study meets in room 214. We study God’s Word, only God’s Word and digest God’s Word in a small group setting. These men range in age from college to Senior Saints. We are open to CBC members and non-CBC believers. This is engaging, supporting, and edifying men who want to know God more personally. Come try us once, return often to grow in grace. We will begin a new study through Matthew on July 29. Please join us.
